APODCAST OBSERVATIONS
By Dave Jackson from the School of Podcasting
What is on my mind...
I'm driving to Dayton Ohio today to participate and speak at the Erma Bombeck Writers Workshop. It is an opportunity, and consequently every night this week I've done my 30 minute presentation at least three times every evening. This also will free up my mind to discover jokes and entertaining things to mix it. I don't want to memorize it, but I want to know what slide is next, so I can focus on reading the room. The more I understand about the people in front of me, the more I can customize the presentation for maximum impact. I don't speak until Friday so I have all of Thursday to solve the puzzle of (as Jerry Seinfeld would say), "Who are these people?"
The one thing I do when I speak is to get the room early and greet people as they arrive. I might ask them what they are hoping to learn. As it is in podcasting, it starts with knowing who your audience is and what they want. I'm not nervous, but I am excited. As someone who lead classes every day for 10+ years, the only thing I somewhat missing working for Libsyn, is getting in front of a live classroom with eager students.
The competitive part of my personality wants to make it very hard for the next person on stage who gets to follow me. I can't wait.
WHAT I'VE BEEN UP TO
I've been sniffing around Neil Patel's website. HE had a great article that talked about Google feels about all of those "artificial intelligence" tools that suck up the Internet and spit out in a way that isn't exactly a copy, but close. (Quick Answer: Google isn't a fan). see https://neilpatel.com/blog/google-search-essentials/
Google Analytics (V3) is going away in June of 2023 (this a great free tool that gives you tons - almost creepy - in information about your website visitors. So while it is a way off, I started introducing myself to Google Analytics Version 4. see

I paid for access to Neil's tool "Ubersuggest" and like a child who ends up playing with the box more than the toy at Christmas, I need to take the time and really get to know and use this tool.
New Website Tool With a Lifetime Deal
I got a demo of Supapass a few years ago and it was impressive. I had just moved to a new platform, and wasn't comfortable in (at the time) a brand new platform for the School of Podcasting. I now trust them as my friend Chris Krimitsos from Podfest uses it to manage his videos after the conference is over. It does a lot of things, and I bought it tonight for $69 and I'm going to revamp davidjackson.org (which is very dusty) website as it sounds like you can do just about anything you want with the site (it even creates a mobile app for your site). Here is a quick overview video

WHAT CAUGHT MY EYE
Alitu is a cool "in the cloud" way to edit your podcast. They announced they are adding media hosting to the list of services. Also, Squadcast added the ability to see (and more importantly CHANGE) the guests equipment (so if you see they are connected to their camera's microphone instead of their other microphone you can change it).
COMING IN THE FUTURE
I'm still trying to come up with something "out of left field" to break up the routine.
