PODCAST OBSERVATIONS
By Dave Jackson from the School of Podcasting
WHAT I'VE BEEN UP TO
CHRISTMAS IS OVER FOR ME
I celebrated Christmas last week before my brothers goes off to Florida to celebrate Christmas with his in-laws. It was a great time with family that was just great. I bought myself a TV Wall Mount from Amazon. that I won't open until Christmas. It will give me something to play with.
SCHOOL OF PODCASTING
On the School of Podcasting I had someone explain to how they had heard from "media people" how "flexible" Spotify/Anchor are. I couldn't hold back, and shared why I just (still) don't trust Anchor.
ASK THE PODCAST COACH
On Ask the Podcast coach, we talked a little YouTube/Podcasting.
PODCAST RODEO SHOW- NEEDS SOME NEW HORSESHOES
I'm in the process of making a course on Captivate.fm. In playing with the Dynamic Content tool I easily added a pre and post roll file (impressive) and added a midroll ad as well. Again, impressive until it broke all the players on my Podpage site. Brenden from Podpage has been helpful, and original the Captivate team had it fixed -until it wasn't. Now their solution is to remove all ads until after Christmas and they have an update coming. In the meantime, I still continue putting out episodes. This just effects my website (not my feed).
The latest Rodeo episode I'm happy to announce has turned into a coaching client. The host has an impressive background, but the start of her show need work. Listen to my first impression here.
On Your Podcast Consultant I share why I think charging your guests to appear is a bad idea.
TASCAM UPDATE
While I was impressed with the way the company reached out to me to hear my concerns. They said they would be sending me a replacement unit (I provided my address, but so far new unit. I'm contacting Sweetwater to see about returning it).
Behind the scenes, I'm brushing off Todoist to help me stay focused, and keep moving forward.
This week's episode of the SOP will either be lessons we can learn from Hallmark Movies, or an episodes on tools and income streams.
I'm Good on Content - A Trend I See Over and Over and Over...
I was up late last night working on a blog post. There is a definite trend in podcast. I ask people if they've had any kind of constructive feedback (they haven't), and when I talk about providing some they say, "I'm good on content." Yet they need help growing their audience. When I listen to their episode, it is often filled with very low hanging fruit. My goal is to turn the School of Podcasting into a community where we can all help each other make the best content we can.
WHAT CAUGHT MY EYE
Great Video on Creating Good Questions
If you do interviews this Youtube video is a masterclass in creating great questions and doing interviews. It's amazing and you will not be sorry. It is a must watch kind of thing and I'll be adding it to the Interviewing class at the SOP as bonus content.
My Favorite Podcast
I do this every year. Let me know what your favorite podcast is (AND WHY) while your promote YOUR SHOW at www.schoolofpodcasting.com/question (I need your answer by 12/24/21)
Book Giveaway
I am giving away one copy of the book Find Your Read Thread by Tamsen Webster (who happens to be Tom Webster's wife). I've got one chapter down and I swear 30% of it is highlighted. So far (about two chapters in) it feels like a "how to tell your story so people will listen" book (which makes me think, which makes me smile).
I started playing with Surferseo which is another thing (besides YouTube) that I want to dive into a little deeper in 2022.
PLEASE BE SAFE
The holidays bring out the best and worst of people. Be kind, loving, compassionate, and respectful. Also, lock your doors.
