Should I use an "All in one" solution or use a specialized parts in tandem?
Brad from Cancer and Comedy asked for my opinion on "All in One Sites" vs using multiple specialized tools. It's a hard question to answer and as always "If depends" on your budget, tech level, and desire to tackle a learning curve.
If you decide to want to sell courses, digital products, a membership/community here are some things to keep in mind. Look at all the features:
There is no "Right answer," and it depends on what your priorities are going to be on which one you would choose.
Kajabi
One of the reasons I think Kajabi is overpriced is they treat everything like a "Product" (per this demo video). If I want to have a course, a PDF for sale, and a Community/Membership that is seen as three products. That puts you are $150/month.
Podia
Podia is like "Kajabi light" and has a very similar feature set for half the price with prices for the above set of products starting at $39/month up to $89/Month
Zenler
Zenler has an INSANE feature set and clock it at $67/month (big discount for yearly). They have amazing support, and lots of tutorials on their site and YouTube channel.
Pensight
Pensight is a new tool for me. I signed up for the free service and in spending 20 minutes with it, everything was simple and worked well (their calendar integration was superb). If you wanted to sell the above, it would be $29/month. (20% discount by the year). I kept looking for "the catch" and aside from no affiliate program (for your site), and no mobile app (are you learning courses on your phone?) I was impressed (and started think of moving my site). I couldn't really test their landing page tool, but it looked good enough.
The problem with Squarespace, Substack, Kajabi etc is they've "tacked on" podcast (cause it's hot!) and they often are missing information that is important. In my days of podcast support I remember Squarespace feeds being a little fragile. Kajabi tech support when they first rolled out podcasting didn't understand how to redirect a feed.
I would recommend Captivate, Buzzsprout, Blubrry, or Libsyn for your media hosting and then embed the episodes (like a blog post) on your site.
I moved from Podia to Zenler, and it took A LOT of time to update the front sale page, move, and alert all the affiliate links, and your members can't cancel their subscription on a new platform (so you have to cancel via Stripe). So think long and hard about how much time it will take for you to save some money.
